Control Panels
![]()
The control panel is a necessary component of a security system. Every
system must have a control panel. It is typically about 18" square in size, and
it is normally mounted out of sight in a closet or basement.
The control
panel is a metal box which contains electronic circuit boards, connections for
wiring, back-up battery and system power. It may be made tamper resistant with
the installation of a lock, or may be secured using screws in the side of the
metal box.
The control panel of a security system is usually referred to
as the "brain" of the system. All wires from the security systems peripheral
devices, such as doors, windows, etc., are usually connected to the control
panel. If a door or window is violated, a signal is sent to the control panel
which may activate an audible alarm or call the police via a central station
monitoring center.
